All Zimboga classes are advanced but suitable for beginners. In this way everyone gets challenged and has room to improve their practice. I promise, you won’t get bored!
What is an Advanced Zimbogi?
Advanced can be any combination of: 1) combining meditation, breath control, postures and movement into a flow, 2) doing really technically difficult poses, 3) mastering the physicality, purpose and form of poses, 4) achieving very high levels of strength and flexibility, 5) combing multiple arm-balances and inversions together in a seamless flow, or 6) achieving the ability to balance and control mind, body & spirit (in #6 the ability to quickly drop in & out of meditation, control your emotions and control your body wrt balance, breath, etc).
While almost all the flows/classes are ‘all level’ I do occasionally make a flow specifically for advanced or intermediate yogis. Usually I make up the flow ‘in the moment’ by watching the class and adjusting to their needs and abilities. However, I do have a few prepared ‘Advanced Flows’. See below:
There are countless pose combinations that would count as advanced. Below is just one example.
Advanced flow sequence: Plow, Bound High Boat, Elephant, 8-Angle, EPK, Crow, Flying Crow, Crow, Chin Stand. On this one, the point is to keep your feet off the mat & keep your balance while shifting from posture to posture.
To be an advanced Zimbogi, some key flow transition pieces should be mastered. Some of these are demonstrated below.
Transition: float to feet. This is one of the markers of an advanced Zimbogi. Having the strength to float with ‘air time’ feet to hands. Do this every Vinyasa or Zimboga flow.
Advanced transition: float to optional advanced pose. This transition is great to amp up your flows by adding handstands, inversions or arm-balances into Vinyasa or Zimboga flows. If you’re am advanced Zimbogi, you know you can add or subtract anything during a class – you do you…
Advanced Transition: Float to Crow. Use this whenever the class is doing a Vinyasa or Zimboga flow.
